The Spring Equinox is fast approaching which means the Australian Wiccan Conference isn’t far away.
I attended several from back in the early 80s when it all started in Adelaide. They were fun and very informative and I am sure are even more so now. Sadly I have been unable to attend any for several years due to ill health and age, but always wish them well.
On 21st September 1984 (Spring Equinox) the first annual National Witches Conference was held in Adelaide at Parnanga, O’Sullivan’s Beach. Parnanga was on a cliff top overlooking the sea and we slept in dormitories (segregated for the first conference only). We held a dawn ceremony on the cliff top which was amazing.
Before the next conference I wrote the following song: Words are mine, music is traditional.
The Witches Conference is in September,
Each year we gather and meet in love.
We share our knowledge and all remember,
In days long past, it was forbid.
We share our friendship, we share our craft,
One day the public will lose their fear.
We hope they’ll join us in life eternal,
A perfect Karma to all who dare.
Australian witches should join together,
And show the world we can meet in peace.
No fights, no struggles for power and glory,
No worries how others work and feast.
There is no right way, there is no wrong way.
To praise the Old Ones and work their will.
The magic works if the heart is pure,
For peace on earth and goodwill to all.
We meet each full moon and seek the Goddess,
For thirteen times in a silver year.
Eight times again for the major Sabbats,
We join in worship and feel them near.
Rejoice together, the Old Ones guide us,
Our circle warms us, protects our craft.
Each life advances our journey forward,
Perfection waits at the end of time.
To the traditional tune of Boolavogue / Port Macquarie
