I is for Iolite

An old name is dichroite, a Greek word meaning “two-coloured rock”, a reference to cordierite’s strong pleochroism (an optical phenomenon caused by refracted light) which means it shows two colours. Viewed from one angle it can appear quite grey and lifeless, but when rotated through 90 degrees, it suddenly reveals the beautiful violet colour. It has also been called the Viking’s Compass because of its ability to determine the direction of the sun on overcast or foggy days.

Iolite is a major stone to use for meditation and astral travel as well as past life work. When all the chakras are aligned, place Iolite on the Third Eye for psychic insight. It can open you to psychic talents and intuition. It will enhance curiosity and help you grow spiritually. Iolite is a very strong Shaman stone and can stimulate visions. It will help you understand why you are here and connect your soul with a state of unconditional love. It gives protection and strengthens and aligns the aura with the subtle bodies.

One specific quality is its ability to help deal with addictions of all kinds, be it alcoholism, drug abuse or more subtle behavioural ones like extreme competitiveness or always choosing similar partners ensuring negative outcomes. Iolite can assist where there is co-dependency, releasing fear or friction from a relationship and allowing you to take responsibility once more. It can aid in the detoxification process and help maintain sobriety.

Iolite has strong healing and can be beneficial for sore throats, varicose veins and blisters.
