D is for Dioptase and Dumortierite

This week I am going to discuss two very different crystals, Dumortierite and Dioptase.

Dioptase is a beautiful dark blue-green or emerald green in colour and has a positive and dramatic effect on the body’s energy field. It was discovered in 1797 and named by Hauy from the Greek for “through” and “to see” in allusion to the visibility of internal cleavage planes.

It is excellent for mental cleansing and emotional healing, which can be either romantic hurt or deep psychological issues from the past, where there is a strong emotional reaction in the adult. Dioptase is used for all matters of the heart, either physical or emotional. Its revitalising energy can release negative emotions and provide healing from abuse, neglect, sadness and despair. It helps you overcome hurtful past traumas and brings confidence and self-worth. You can program it to use with affirmations to enhance self-esteem.

This crystal can clear the aura and stimulate the auric body to align the physical and etheric bodies. It is protective on subtle levels and is good for alignment and attunement with the spiritual energies. Dioptase promotes a heightened sense of awareness and emotional stability. It enhances spiritual development, psychic and telepathic abilities.

Dioptase may be beneficial for heart burn, physical heart problems, Meniere’s disease, headaches and migraines. It is excellent for cellular regeneration and healing in general.

Dumortierite is blue, greenish blue, violet blue or pale blue and is also known as Blue Quartz. It was discovered in 1881 and named for the French palaeontologist Eugene Dumortier (1803-1873).

Dumortierite can help us gain control of our lives by assisting us to see things for what they really are and free us from illusions which prevent us from growing, perhaps through fear of change. Wearing or carrying this stone can be useful in treating addictions and compulsive or impulsive behavioural patterns. It can bring self-reliance, mental clarity, stamina, patience, recognition of potential, understanding, communication of ideas and spiritual development.

Dumortierite enhances organizational skills, self-discipline and order. It reduces the difficulties of a scattered mind and of disorganization. When it activates the Throat chakra it promotes speaking what is on your mind. It removes the fear of reaching out to others and stimulates new relationships. It is a stone of hope which calms the mind and eliminates stubbornness.

Use Blue Quartz when you want to focus on another person and send them good thoughts, then you may hear from them soon. Dumortierite may be beneficial for the throat, thyroid, parathyroid, detoxification, overstimulation, blood, spleen, hyperactivity, headaches and the endocrine system.

Caution needs to be taken with both of these crystals as Dioptase contains Copper and Dumortierite contains Aluminium. Do not put them in your mouth (in fact I don’t recommend placing any crystals or gemstones in the mouth).
