25/4/2012 – Anzac Day – the day when all Australians and New Zealanders remember their diggers.
Lest We Forget!………………………………………or have we already forgotten?
My Dad lied about his age and enlisted as an underaged recruit in World War I, the so-called Great War. HOW can a war be described as great? Horrific, destructive, disastrous, horrible, terrible are words that would better describe war.
I grew up hearing the stories of the landing at Gallipoli and Suvla Bay and felt immense sadness at the terrible losses that incurred. But it didn’t end there. There has been war throughout the world ever since with no sign of peace on earth anytime soon.
My brother and I were born during World War II and my children were all born during the time of the Vietnam War with my son being born on Anzac Day 1971.
It is long past the time when everyone should stand up and say ENOUGH!
The bombs dropped at Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan to end WWII didn’t stop future wars so there has to be another way and it has to be the people of the world joining together in peace, who put an end to war forever.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Everybody, please say NO to war and bring our sons and daughters home safely.
Blessed Be!
